1:1 SHADOW TENDER SESSIONS

Space to encounter Shadow and step into relationship with
the wisdom, resilience, and joy contained within.

Focusing on the body as the seat of both emotional and creative wisdom, I work with individuals to transmute fear through dialogue, symbol, and creative expression. Sessions are custom-structured to include movement, journaling, mask-work, guided meditations, breathing exercises, crafting assignments, sound, music, and other types of expressive modalities. More information about what to expect can be found in the Shadow Tender FAQ section.

My approach is inspired by over three decades of experience in dance and movement arts, formal training in visual art and the psychology of trauma, and a life-long passion for folklore, ritual, and mythology.

A private Shadow Tender session can be supportive if you are:

  • Seeking an intentional container in which to explore your Shadow archetype

  • Craving support to process and integrate emotions that may be difficult to put into words

  • Eager for embodied, tactile tools and individual guidance to transmute fear and creative blocks

  • Curious to gain a deeper, multidimensional understanding of the Shadow archetype on individual and collective levels

“Shadow Tender was a game changer for me in how I approached shadow work on my healing journey. By engaging me intellectually, somatically, creatively, and emotionally - no aspect of self was neglected in what had been an historically painful process of “processing”. Natalya is a gifted artist, mystic, thinker, and community leader. ”

“My joy returned to me (mic drop). I loved every moment of how you structured our time...from opening, to the slowness of the exercises that helped me embody my body again, to identifying my grief and put it into a physical object. I don’t tend to be creative in that way and you gave me permission to create whatever wanted to come forth. You gave me options on how I want to express myself through movement and intimacy. I appreciated your intentionality and care for details. I was amazed by the alchemy of acknowledging my grief as myself as a child so that I can feel joyful and free again in the present. This work and play are vital for the world to heal right now. Please don’t ever stop teaching Natalya!”

ABOUT SHADOW TENDER

Shadow Tender is a creative project and teaching methodology that aims to look beyond the ego's defenses to ask: Who is the monster, here? How do we create the monstrous? How does it create us?

And most importantly: what lies beyond the fear?

Carl Jung described the Shadow as the part of the psyche in which we store aspects of ourselves that we’d rather not acknowledge – things that make us feel ashamed, frightened, weak, or powerless. In rejecting our own Shadows, we unconsciously project them onto others, creating monsters and enemies that are more revealing of our own darkness than anything else.

At its core, Shadow Tender is my response to the growing trend of dehumanization and demonization across many spheres - political, social, and environmental. This profound desire to create an “other” - to create an enemy on which to project all of one’s hatred - extends beyond the containers of culture, language, or geography.

Created in collaboration with a vibrant interdisciplinary creative team, Shadow Tender draws on research across diverse fields - from medieval alchemy to contemporary neuroscience - as well as a wide range of movement disciplines including ballet, butoh, modern dance, martial arts, among others.

HONOR YOUR TEACHERS
RESPECT YOUR ANCESTORS

My work and coaching approach was developed across a variety of spaces - intellectually, temporally, and geographically - which is itself an enormous privilege.

No teacher, no ancestor is perfect or without flaw, yet a constellation of teachers can begin to weave clearer and clearer paths for inquiry shaped by integrity, curiosity, and greater self-awareness. I openly credit and honor those whose work has become a foundation for my own approaches and teaching methodology:

  • The teaching methodology, academic guidance, and insights of La Donna Forsgren, Les Gray, Theresa May, and Alexandra Bonds

  • The research of Spee Kosloff, Jeff Greenberg, and other scholars of Terror Management Theory

  • The writings and scholarly research of Judika Illes

  • The breathing methodologies of Konstantin Buteyko

  • The teachings and writings of Milton Erickson

  • The teachings of butoh artists Diego Piñon, Hiroko & Koichi Tamano, Yumiko Yoshioka, and others

  • The communication strategies taught by Kasia Urbaniak and Ruben Flores at the Academy

  • Shadow Tender collaborators and co-teachers: Maria Thomas, Magdalena Kaczmarska, and Adam Cooper-Terán

  • Eastern European and Central Asian folklore and fairytales as passed through oral and written traditions

  • The teachings & writings of Marshall Rosenberg and his theory of Nonviolent Communication

  • The psychodramatic approaches of Alejandro Jodorowsky

  • The research of Peter Levine and Somatic Experiencing

  • The original writings and theories of Carl G. Jung
